Here are some of the highlights from the fabulous 7th Grade Washington DC trip we took in May.
I must say, this trip has thus far been my most memorable experience as a teacher.
Bags packed, bus full, hitting the road! (but first we must stop at Jason's apt. so he can get the trip shirt that he forgot).
Homework on the bus? Oh yes!
Everyone was given information on one of the sculptures found at the National Sculpture Garden.
They each shared about their sculpture.
All were good sports - they DID get homemade chocolate chip cookies ;)
We stayer at Sandy Spring Friends School, in Sandy Spring, Maryland.
We thank them dearly for their phenomenal hospitality!
Natural outdoor play area.. got my wheels turning about possible environmental art projects!
Impromptu Meeting for Worship at THE Sandy Spring.
National Sculpture Garden
Remember bus homework? A-ha! Now everyone found their sculpture! I even overheard several of my kids telling other visitors about the sculptures and the artists - you guys amaze me!
Yeeeah Roy Lichtenstein!
Everyone was great in indulging me while I "nerded out" about all of the art!
Friends Committee on National Legislation
FCNL with Annie Boggess, who just so happens to be the daughter of Brenda, our Head of School.
Capitol Tour
I am standing in the exact center of DC.
Capitol Building - Jason's turn to nerd-out!
Bike the Sites tour
I highly recommend this if you are traveling with a mid-sized group of kids.
We were able to see a lot, in a fairly short about of time... and the kids got to ride bikes!
MLK Memorial
Einstein Memorial
Vietnam Memorial
Etching at Vietnam Memorial
Reflection @ Vietnam Memorial
White House!
Another goose bump moment, standing in the place that Martin Luther King gave the "I Have A Dream" speech'- Great prep for this one, Jason!
Hirshhorn Art Museum
( time for Amy to get art-teacher-giddy once again! )
We saw such a great variety of Art... everyone was able to connect with something.
mhmmm.....
And yes... this is how 7th graders view art.
Sandy Spring Adventure Ropes Course - AMAZING!!
I was throughly impressed with the complexity of this course.
I was equally impressed with the amount of encouragement and support the kids gave each other as they made their way though the different skill lever courses they even cheered Jason and I on as we conquered several courses.
Meeting for Worship on the National Mall
Tuckered our kids - success!!
Overall, a fantastic trip! These are the experiences that students, as well as we teachers, hold on to.
Can't wait for next year!
