Kindergarten - How many greens can we make?
Kindergarten has been exploring color theory and the relationships between colors.
This week we worked on mixing different shades of green using yellow, white, light blue, and dark blue.
We painted on newspaper. Later we will use these different greens in a collage piece.

MLK Parade 2013
Friends School 3rd-8th students, teachers, and parents march
in the WIlmington Martin Luther King Jr. Parade!
As a Quaker school, we celebrate the movement towards Peace.
Our MLK collaborative portrait, created by the 3rd and 4th graders, was very well received from members in our Wilmington community.

5th & 6th - Outside taking photographs!
What a beautiful January day!
5th & 6th went outside this morning to take photographs focusing on the concept of Dreams - tying into our Martin Luther King Jr. discussions. We also learned about the Rule of Thirds and how to set up a successful composition. We ail be editing the photographs thursday in photoshop.

5th & 6th - Water-Life Watercolor
Turtle Turtle Turtle!
I am very excited to share these watercolor paintings because 1) they are mostly of turtles (which I love!) and 2) they were made from sketches that we made while on our trip to Bald Head Island (which I am still doing cartwheels about how awesome the experience was!).
For this project, I purchases Windor & Newton watercolor sets. This is what I use to make my own artwork, so I was excited to share this with the kids.
Among the usual watercolor techniques (washes, blending, dry brush, wet on wet...) we also experimented with liquid masking fluid. Many students chose to mask an area for clouds or an area in the sand.
