Organizing our Art Bins!

Every Art teacher knows how wonderful these can be - to have everyday supplies on tables makes it so much easier for students to get the things they need.

This year I wanted the kids to have more ownership in these bins, to better keep them organized. So, we made a list of things that should (and should not) go in them. We then went on a scavenger hunt to fill them.

The kid saw how the bins will be useful in Art and also what it takes to keep them organized.

Thumbs up - lookin' good!

Dolphin Day 2012!

Dolphin Day is one of our favorites at FSW!!
After our Specialists teachers have gone over the Social Curriculum, we celebrate the beginning of the year with a little water fun!

This year Mother Nature had other plans, as we were only able to have our first group outside. We made the most of it however and still had a ton of fun inside with relay races, games and a fashion dress up show. We really enjoy this time boding with our students!

Summer Camp - Art Outdoors

Art is all around us, just go outside!

We picked flowers from our school's gardens to use in flower pounding prints

Using a hammer to extract the natural dyes from the flowers

Using bamboo from our gardens and recycled paper to make kites.

Painting our beautiful kites.

Adding a tail.
We love having our Friends School alumni coming back to help with Summer Camp!
All we need is a bit of wind!
Big messy Art outdoors!

Summer Camp - Lights, Camera, Action!

Wow! What a fun and energetic week of camp this was!!
In just one week, 15 awesome kids wrote, filmed and stared in this short film.

In true Friends School fashion, we were sure to come to complete consensus with all decisions. Everyone worked together as older kids showed great leadership while working with our younger kids.

Summer Camp - KickstART

Kick-start (verb):
To make active, functional, or productive;  To reinvigorate an activity, system, or process.

The goal of this camp is to reinvigorate a love for Art in young children. During these 5 days we used a variety of art materials to make big and beautiful artwork! Here are some pictures of our kids in action!
